Ohh the Joys

Dave's picture

So my little girl has decided that she is ready to go fishing.
She's three

We have been talking about going fish almost every day now so I though it would be good to get her feet wet with an old rod and real I had.
I plan on getting her a little kids fishing pole so she can walk around with it but for now I have a broken Pole with a good spinning real that the pole broke off at 2 feet.
(Big fish broke it while trolling) ((Really!!))

So I give her the rod and reel and showed her how to get it spinning.
She walked around with it for 10 minutes or so and climbed up on the couch behind me that I was leaning on.

Then she started to climb on my shoulders and settled in.
She still had the fishing pole in her hands
and was still spinning the real while on my shoulder.
No big deal right?

WRONG! She pulled the "spinning" reel towards my face and the bail
cracked me in the nose. I was not only in shock of what just happened but in a lot of pain.

I don't know if this is what I should expect for the years to come but well find out.

I'm sure were going to have a lot of fun

RE: Ohh the joys

I have a three year old son, and my girlfriend has a four year old boy and six year old girl, and they have been fishing so much already that I fear I might have burned them out.  But I believe that a good foundation in fishing is essential.  They will come back to it some day, probably after all of the high school and college partying years, god willing. There is a certain peace that is found only at the handle of a fishing rod.

These kids (or at least their kiddie poles) out fish me much of the time.  The youngsters don't have a great attention span, but they do get excited when there is a fish on and they love to reel them in and claim it was them who caught the fish.  Which I guess is the case because I'll admit I have tried fishing with those kid poles when I am all by myself to see if they keep the same luck, and what do you know... scunko. But if my son is nearby, or one of my girlfriend's kids, or any other kid for that matter those poles are hitting like crazy.  Another reason to believe that there might just be a higher power involved in this whole fishing thing.
