Just Outside of Kern County 2011

Now and then you just have to go outside of Kern to try your luck at other nearby lakes.  These two bass were caught at Lake Success (left) and Castaic Lake (Right).

Clicking on photo will make these bass look larger than they really are, LOL :-)

How did you catch them? Any

How did you catch them?

Any good top water action?

"Whats Next?"

I did not use any top-water

I did not use any top-water action baits, just used a drop shot with thin 5 to 6 inch plastic worm and small hook about 8 to 10 inches from the bottom.

At Lake Success: Light opaque purple color plastic with dark strip. Water is up so I went over to the East side ramp where the cliffs are under water and pitched in letting it drop down the cliff side. Caught another one under the dock.

At Castaic Lake: Darker plastic with lighter strip. Same technique, looked for drop off on North side of lake just across of main launch ramp.

Tips: I personally use a slow retrieval and light twitching of rod for slight action of the plastic on a good 10 pound test line. Let the plastic also drop and bounce off the bottom even though you have the weight 10 inches below the hook, this give a natural presentation.

I always use scented oils. My plastics are always sitting in scented oils for long periods to absorb the scent long before I go out fishing. I think this also helps keep my human scent from my hands from being detected by the fish.

What’s next you ask... I just look forward to getting out on the water. If I catch something, it's just a bonus! So it's only a win win situation for me, as long as my boat stays afloat. LOL :-)

Love your comment. I think

Love your comment. I think I'm going to try it out this weekend. I don't want to go outside of Bakers. Do you know where I can go locally?
